As the days get shorter and the sun goes to bed a little earlier, many women especially high achieving ones start to feel…off. Tired. Unmotivated. Heavy. It’s not just “winter blues.” It could be Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a form of depression triggered by seasonal changes.
And here’s the truth: you can’t hustle your way out of it. However, you can create a healing routine to move through it.
What SAD Can Look Like (Especially in Women Over 35):
Waking up tired no matter how long you sleep
Craving more carbs and sugar
Pulling back from social connection
Losing interest in what usually brings joy
Feeling spiritually flat or emotionally numb
Rest-Based Remedies (Backed by the 7 Types of Rest):
Mental Rest: Use a light therapy lamp while journaling in the morning, it simulates sunlight and clear your thoughts.
Physical Rest: Let your body slow down but don’t skip movement. Gentle stretching, walking, or dancing boosts mood and energy.
Emotional Rest:Talk about how you’re really feeling, don’t suppress it. Sadness needs space.
Sensory Rest: Cut screen time early at night. Let your eyes and brain breathe.
Creative Rest: Engage in fun, creative outlets(like…mixing nail polish or coloring 👀). It resets your dopamine and inspires joy.
Social Rest: Say no when needed—but also say yes to nourishing company.
Spiritual Rest: Lean into quiet time with God not just to ask, but to listen.
Strength is Rooted in Stillness:
SAD doesn’t make you broken. It makes you human. In a world that glorifies pushing through, choosing to pause with intention is the most powerful thing you can do.
You don’t need to fake joy or force light. You just need to honor yourself during the shift in seasons and finding peace that brings you back to yourself day by day.
